A tragic accident occurred earlier in Samothraki as a boat killed a snorkeler.

The 44-year-old underwater fisherman in the sea area west of Kamariotissa, Samothraki, when he was swept away by a speedboat.

According to the first information, the accident happened around 18.00, the body of the unfortunate man was located and retrieved by the Coast Guard, while the driver of the speedboat and another man on board – who were reportedly on vacation in the area – are being held at the Coast Guard of Samothrace.

The 44-year-old’s parents and sister are tragic figures, while shocked like all the residents of the island, says the mayor of Samothraki Thanasis Vitsas.

As he told APE – BEE given the shock caused to the entire local community by the accidental death of a young man, that the whole process is ongoing – both in terms of investigating the circumstances of the accident and finding immediate means of transport body at the University General Hospital of Alexandroupoli – no further information and data are possible.

It is noted that efforts continue until the evening hours to transfer the body – which remains at the Health Center – to Alexandroupoli in order to carry out the autopsy tomorrow.
