The history
The fire that broke out after the tanker, which was carrying fuel, overturned, was extinguished at around 11.40pm last night. After it overturned, it burst into flames, resulting in a large fire. Due to the fire, the Traffic Police stopped the traffic of vehicles on both the old and the new Athens-Corinth highway, resulting in queues of kilometers.
With the fire extinguished, shortly after midnight, the Elefsina toll road to Corinth was opened first and traffic gradually began to recover.
No other vehicle was involved
To extinguish the fire, 28 firefighters with 9 vehicles tried to extinguish the fire and sprayed special extinguishing liquid.
As reported by the Fire Department, no other vehicle was involved in the accident. The driver of the tanker was extricated unharmed, has no burns, but has some bumps from the rollover. He was taken to Corinth hospital, while no one else was injured.
From the first moment, the Fire Department rushed to the scene and the forces were immediately reinforced due to the extent of the fire front that was created.
According to korinthostv.gr, the Corinth Fire Service was alerted after a call that the tanker carrying fuel had exploded. At the scene, as reported by the local media, there were constant explosions.
The fire even spread to the slope of the highway.
