At this time, according to the Fire Department, great efforts are being made by powerful ground forces and aerial means (15 vehicles with 37 firefighters, a forest commando team, a helicopter and 9 aircraft coordinated by the OLYMPOS Operations Center), for a fire that started in Melissourgos of Thessaloniki and evolved into Polygyros of Halkidiki.

“Tough” battles have been fought since midday by the forces of the Fire Brigade and Civil Protection to deal with simultaneous fires that have broken out across the country. According to the Fire Department, eight of them were particularly dangerous, however, strong ground forces and aerial means managed to limit them directly and in time, before they threatened residential areas and forest areas.

More specifically, as was made known by the Fire Department:

  • Herso Kilkis: evacuation 112 was issued and 2 aircraft attempted
  • Eleftherochori Pella: issued 112 and attempted 5 aircraft
  • Agios Thomas Larissa: issued 112 and attempted 1 helicopter
  • Lagadas Thessaloniki: They operated 3 aircraft
  • Livadia Javelin: 2 aircraft and 2 helicopters operated
  • New Agriniou: 2 helicopters operated
  • Oinophyta (Tanagra): 1 aircraft
  • Tselepakos Tripoli: 1 helicopter

It is noted that as it became known from the Fire Department, a total of 51 agroforestry fires broke out in the last twenty-four hours.
