Extreme fire danger-state of alarm (risk category 5) is forecast today, Fridayfor the region of Attica (except Kythera) according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map.

At the same time, a very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted today for Kythira, the Peloponnese Region and the Regions of Western Greece (Ilia, Achaia), Central Greece (Fokida, Boeotia, Fthiotida, Evia including the island of Skyros) ) and North Aegean (Lesvos PE, Chios PE).

For this reason, as the Fire Department announced, the personnel of the Fire Services of the Attica Region remain on general alert in order to deal with the increased service demands, which have arisen due to the large number of fires as well as the extreme risk of fire (risk category 5).

The Fire Services are put on partial alert in their area of ​​responsibility where a very high risk of fire is expected (risk category 4)

At the same time, aerial surveillance patrols continue, as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces.

At the same time, for the above areas, the Plan of Civil Protection actions to deal with risks due to forest fires is implemented, according to which, among other things, the implementation of the measure of preventive ban on vehicle traffic and the stay of excursions in national parks, forests and “vulnerable” areas.

At the same time, the GPP has informed all the competent government agencies involved, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased readiness to take measures within their competence.

In addition, the Fire Brigade appeals to the citizens:

1. Be especially careful and avoid actions in the open air that can cause a fire by negligence, such as

i. burning dry grasses and branches or cleaning residues,

ii. the use of machines that cause sparks such as circular saws, welding devices,

iii. the use of outdoor grills,

iv. smoking bees,

v. throwing lit cigarettes, etc.

2. To monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Service, Facebook and Twitter.

3. In the event that they notice a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.

Finally, the Fire Department calls on all citizens to be particularly careful and in the event of a fire, for their own safety, to faithfully follow the instructions of the competent Authorities

B. Kikilias: No action that can lead to tragic consequences

A coordinating meeting was held yesterday Thursday at the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, under the minister, Vassilis Kikilia, with the object of planning the actions due to the fire risk map of the Civil Protection. According to the Map, today Attica is at alert level (red – scale 5 – extreme risk) and in several areas of the country at level 4 (orange – very high risk).

“For the first time so early in June we have “index 5” in Attica, i.e. red code, state of alarm, and “index 4″ in four other regions of the country. The entire state machinery will be on high alert. Attention everyone, even a spark can lead to havoc and destruction. We must all be alert, both the citizens and the state machine,” said Mr. Kikilias and added: “No negligence, no movement, no action that can lead to tragic consequences.”

The meeting was attended by the leadership of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, co-competent ministers, regional governors of areas with fire risk category 5 and 4, representatives of the Fire Brigade, ELAS, GEETHA and EKAB as well as co-competent agencies.
