“Battle” with the flames was given by the fire brigade on Saturday night, in order to limit the fires that were in progress with the most dangerous fronts being located in Ano Daskaleio in Keratea and Sapes Rhodope.
Firefighters were on alert throughout the night for fear of flare-ups in Keratea Attica.
Although the flames reached very close to the houses, the immediate intervention of the fire brigade proved to be crucial and life-saving. More than 120 firefighters with 38 vehicles and 4 pedestrian units immediately rushed to the scene. Also, volunteer firefighters and local water bodies contribute to the extinguishing.
For security reasons, an order was given last night with a message from 112 for the evacuation of Ano Daskaleion. From this front, finally, there have been no reports of damage to homes or businesses.
The fire in Rodopi is in remission
The fire in Sapes Rodopis is also in remission. According to information at this time there are only scattered outbreaks.

A strong force of the Fire Department consisting of 30 firefighters with 11 vehicles and a group of hikers was immediately mobilized for the fire and the extinguishing operation. Also, two firefighters were slightly injured during the extinguishing operation.
A 112 message was also sent to the residents of the area, calling them to be ready. “If you are in the Asketis Rodopi region, stay ready,” he said.
Today, the special unit of the “Ikaros” fire brigade, equipped with drones, is expected to go to Rodopi in order to locate the scattered outbreaks.
Very high fire risk on Sunday in Attica and Evia
A very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is also predicted for this Sunday in Attica and Evia, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the General Secretariat of Civil Protection of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr).
Specifically, a very high risk of fire for tomorrow, Sunday is predicted for the following areas:
* Region of Attica
* Region of Central Greece (Evia)
The General Secretariat of Civil Protection (civilprotection.gov.gr) of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection has informed the competent state agencies involved in the official service, as well as the regions and municipalities of the above regions, so that they are on increased civil protection readiness in order to face any fire incidents immediately.
At the same time, the GPP advises citizens to be especially careful and avoid outdoor activities that can inadvertently cause a fire, such as burning dry grass and twigs or cleaning debris, using machinery that produces sparks such as circular saws, welding equipment, using outdoor grills, smoking bees, throwing lighted cigarettes etc. Also, it is reminded that during the fire protection season burning of fields is prohibited.
Therefore, the 2nd stage of operational readiness of the P.S. and there will be aerial surveillance patrols, as well as patrols by fire, police and military forces.
In addition, the personnel of the Fire Services of the above regional units are put on partial alert, in order to deal with the increased service demands, which may arise due to a very high risk of fire (risk category 4).
At the same time, for the above areas, the Civil Protection action plan is being implemented to deal with risks due to forest fires, according to which, among other things, it is foreseen to implement the measure of the preventive ban on vehicle traffic and the stay of excursionists in national forests, forests and “vulnerable” areas.
The Fire Department appeals to citizens:
1. Be especially careful and avoid any activity that could cause a fire.
2. To monitor forest fire prevention information available on the website and official accounts of the Fire Service, Facebook and Twitter.
3. In the event that they notice a fire, they should immediately notify the Fire Service by dialing 199.
