Firefighters and volunteers will continue extinguishing the fire throughout the evening
The fire in Stamata is without an active front, while the picture is much better in Plaka Kerateas.
Throughout the evening, the fire brigade and volunteers will continue the work of extinguishing the “two extremely dangerous fires”, the Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Vassilis Kikilias, said earlier, referring to the two fire fronts that occurred on Sunday in Attica, in Keratea and Stop.
Stop it
The fire that broke out shortly after 4 pm on Sunday in a forest area in Stamata next to residential areas and in the midst of strong winds, after the enormous efforts of the ground forces and the decisive contribution of the air means, no longer has an active front and small scattered hearths in the forest. Now, there is optimism in the Fire Department that soon the fire will be fully under control. The fact that strong winds have stopped blowing in the area also contributes to the positive image. An informal headquarters has been set up at the stadium of Stamata where the firefighting forces are organized.
145 firefighters with 7 infantry divisions and 42 vehicles will continue to operate in the area throughout the evening in order to bring it under control.
It is recalled that due to the fire, 5 112 messages were issued and the areas of Amygdaleza, Rodopoli and Galini were evacuated.
Unfortunately, a 45-year-old man from the area died trying to get away from the fire. Attempts were made to bring him back and he was taken to the Kapandritiou health center, where he was pronounced dead.
Horned
In the fire that broke out shortly before 12 noon in the Plaka Keratea area, the forces are facing scattered outbreaks within the burnt areas. 138 firefighters with 8 pedestrian units and 39 vehicles remain at the scene and operate.
And in the Keratea fire, 911 was called several times, as it was deemed necessary to evacuate the residents of Paleokamariza, Markati, Plaka, Panorama, Agios Georgios Thorikou and Agios Konstantinos to a safe direction.
Finally, assistance in the work of extinguishing the fires in Keratea and Stamata, Attica, is provided by a large number of volunteers and volunteer vehicles, as well as water tankers and project machinery that have been made available by the Region of Attica and the General Staff of the National Defense.
