Michalis Pikramenos a new president of the CoE was electedfollowing a relevant proposal by the Minister of Justice, Giorgos Floridis, to the Cabinet.

Mr. Pikramenos, who until now was vice-president of the Council of State, will be president of the Council of State for the next three years.

He has been on the judicial staff of the Supreme Court since 1989 and has been vice president of the court for the last six years, serving in the Second Department.

Furthermore, he is a professor of Public Law at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki with an excellent written work and with public interventions abroad and in Greece on various issues, such as accountability in the judiciary, the need for reforms, the acceleration of the administration of justice in order to attract investments and the economic development, the rule of law and the protection of individual rights and others.

He has an extensive written work, with monographs such as “The accountability of judges in democracy”, “Spatial organization and time management of litigants in administrative courts”, “Organization and effectiveness of justice: The European experience”, “The reasoning of administrative acts and the annulment judicial control”, “Judicial independence in the midst of political crises”.

The selection of Mr. Pikramenos as president of the CoE already creates two vacant positions of vice presidents, which will be filled by the cabinet, as the vice president Marina Konstantinidou left due to reaching the age limit.
