Hybrid and electric cars are gaining more interest than petrol or diesel cars. 81% of Greeks say that in the next car market they will choose either hybrid or electric, recording a total of 14% above the EU average, while only 19% still prefer a car that uses gasoline or diesel as its main fuel. . These are the first conclusions of the European Investment Bank (EIB) research on climate change and the “Climate 2021-2022”.
Specifically, 1,000 people from our country were asked and 41% indicated that they would buy a hybrid car, while 40% of Greeks answered that their next car will be electric. On the contrary, diesel vehicles remained low in the preferences of the Greeks, gathering only 19%.
The Aegean Islands and Crete show great interest in hybrids (52%), while 34% are determined to switch to electric in the coming years and only 14% to diesel vehicles.
In Attica the corresponding percentages are 45% for the acquisition of a hybrid car, 36% for the acquisition of an electric and 19% for the purchase of a diesel vehicle.
Approximately similar percentages are in Central Greece with 42% thinking about buying a hybrid car, 42% for buying an electric car and 17% for buying a diesel car.
Northern Greece shows strong interest in electric cars, as 44% are thinking of buying an electric car in the future, 33% of turning to the hybrid market and 22% of acquiring a diesel vehicle.
In the same survey it is worth noting that 67% of European drivers say they will buy either a hybrid or an electric vehicle in the coming years. In general, European buyers tend to prefer hybrid vehicles (39%), while petrol or diesel vehicles are in second place (33%) and electric cars are slightly behind (28%). The Chinese are willing to buy an electric car (44%), while the Americans would choose a hybrid vehicle first (38%), followed by petrol or diesel vehicles (33%) and then electric cars (29%).
In the European Union, drivers over the age of 65 are interested in buying a hybrid vehicle (47%), while younger respondents (15-29 years old) consider a hybrid vehicle to be the least favorable option (31%). Young people say they have a small lead in choosing a petrol or diesel vehicle (35%) or an electric car (34%).
It should be noted that more than 30,000 respondents took part in the survey between August 26 and September 22, 2021 from 30 countries that participated in the survey.
