Those gathered in court when they heard the sentences broke out shouting slogans such as “murderers”
With a unanimous decision, the Mixed Jury Court of Appeal declared the two defendants guilty of the death of Zak Kostopoulos, as in the first instance, imposing a 5-year prison sentence on the jeweler and 6 on the broker.
The court unanimously recognized the convicts mitigating factors of prior cohabitation and the victim’s misconduct to the jeweler and cohabitation to the broker.
The three ordinary judges decided the imprisonment of the brokerwhile Msthe home construction of the sentence the jeweler will do.
Those gathered at the court erupted, chanting slogans such as “murderers”.
The relatives of the condemned fled while Jacques’ mother and brother were left hugging in the middle of the hall, crying. “My Zacharias, they are guilty,” said the mother.
Earlier, the district attorney requested the dismissal of the mitigating circumstances. “The owner of the jewelry store, irritated by the damage to his shop, could have avoided the result if he opened the door and did not keep him trapped inside.
“There is no justification for the criminal behavior of the defendant, who hit the victim, giving the most critical kick to his head, throwing him to the pavement,” the prosecutor said of the jeweler.
Regarding the 61-year-old broker, he said that “in his plea, the accused said that he acted instinctively. The claim that he started the kicking out of altruistic feelings is not true.
“It was not caused by the victim. There was no practical repentance and remorse,” said Mr. Kostarelos.
