At the behest of the Criminal Court of Thessaloniki, the two defendants – temporarily detained for the case in the Nigritas prisons of Serres – are referred to trial for the felony of grievous bodily harm
The 25-year-old well-known trapper and his 24-year-old friend who attacked and seriously injured – for a trivial reason – a 23-year-old student, last January, in a nightclub in the center of Thessaloniki, are referred to the audience of the Mixed Jury Court.
At the behest of the Criminal Court of Thessaloniki, the two defendants – temporarily detained for the case in the Nigritas prisons of Serres – are referred to a trial for the felony of grievous bodily harm, upon conversion of the charge from attempted homicide to complicity, as was the criminal prosecution against them was initially carried out and for which they were asked to apologize to the 7th regular investigator of Thessaloniki.
The Judicial Council considers that by their act they caused the victim serious bodily harm, and in particular life-threatening, serious and long-term illness.
As described in the will, the 23-year-old student was in the early hours of January 26 with two of his friends in a bar on Syngrou Street, when, recognizing the trapper, he approached him and addressed him with the phrase “you are famous”.
Then the 25-year-old musician called him to him and replied “what did you say, I’m famous”, suddenly hitting him with his face on the head (kutulia).
The victim, according to information, jerked by taking one or two steps back and before he could react, the 24-year-old friend of the trapper kicked him hard in the chest, as a result of which the student fell down and hit the back of the head, losing for a few minute his senses.
When the two defendants realized the seriousness of the situation, by the same will, they tried to offer him first aid – the first by holding the student’s legs upright and the second by bringing him a bottle of water from a nearby hotel – while a little later they left, continuing the their evening entertainment.
The 23-year-old’s friends took him to his home to rest, as he refused immediate transfer to the on-call hospital, and when he woke up at noon he reported, among other things, that he was dizzy and that he wanted to sleep. He actually slept continuously until 6 pm until his friends woke him up because they were worried, so they decided to take him to AHEPA hospital. The doctors found that he has brain injuries and hematomas, for the removal of which he underwent surgery and was subsequently hospitalized in the ICU, being discharged after several days of hospitalization at AHEPA.
The 23-year-old, according to his environment, is following a special treatment (pharmaceutical) and is expected to undergo two new rehabilitation operations in the next period.
The trapper and his friend denied the accusation, and in particular, apologizing to the investigator, the first allegedly said that he thought the victim was mocking him, that he did not hit him with force and that he did not want to cause harm, while the second, according to information, said that he did not touch the victim’s body with his foot, that he got involved because he thought he had to help his friend. They appeared, regretful, stressing that they tried to help the student.
