According to the announcement of the Hellenic Police, in the context of the thorough police investigation carried out by police officers of the Kalamata Security Sub-Directorate, using appropriate and combined evidence, it emerged that the 58-year-old man, on 5.7.2024 and in the early hours of the morning, traveled on a moped from local community of Western Mani and through a provincial mountain road network in order to avoid being recorded by cameras, in a health care store in a coastal area of ​​Western Mani, where he detonated an improvised explosive device causing an explosion. He then escaped in the same way, while the result of the explosion was to cause material damage to the store.

After an organized police operation carried out by the above police officers, yesterday (12.7.2024) in the morning in a local community of the Municipality of West Mani, a search was carried out at the home of the 58-year-old, where the two-wheeled moped, which he used for his transport, was found and confiscated. while additionally found and seized:

  • 1 spool of explosive “RDX”, total length -15- meters
  • 1 bag, containing a substance with a total weight of -1.8- kilograms, the chemical composition of which is being investigated,
  • 2 bags, containing substances with a total weight of -18.24- kilograms, the chemical composition of which is being investigated,
  • 1 knife, with a blade length of -17.5- centimeters,
  • 1 container, containing petrol,
  • 1 container, containing oil,
  • 1 container, containing acetone,
  • 1 helmet,
  • 1 mobile phone and
  • 98 cartridges.

The arrested person with the case against them was taken to the Criminal Prosecutor of Kalamata, while the police investigation and the pre-investigation work are carried out by the Kalamata Security Sub-Directorate.

According to information, the couple had no involvement with the particular man, they did not know each other personally except by face and had no previous relationship with him.
