Accused of threatening ex-wife to ‘take the kids and put you in an institution’
According to voria.gr, a police officer who was found guilty of domestic threats against his ex-wife was sentenced to eight months in prison with a three-year suspension by the Autonomous Single-Member Criminal Court of Thessaloniki.
According to the woman, who did not appear in court due to mobility problems, her ex-husband went to the house where they live with their two minor children on July 9 and kept knocking on the door. As the complainant testified to the police, the accused was shouting, as a result of which the children and she were scared, and she added that her ex-husband said that “he will take the children and put her in an institution».
Witnesses who were present at the incident confirmed the complainant’s testimony, while the defendant denied the accusation, arguing that while the divorce with his ex-wife was consensual and the communication with his children was good, recently they did not accept to speak to him and the they mocked.
“I had to see my children for three weeks. I went to the place I know they frequent to see if I could see them. I didn’t like the behavior I saw and I left the house to talk as parents. My eldest daughter opened the door and then my ex-wife started cursing and shouting at me and the children were crying. I explained to her that if she can’t handle the situation with the kids either I take them or bring a structure to the house. In no way did I threaten her,” he said in his plea without, however, convincing the court that found him guilty.
