A 32-year-old foreigner was arrested yesterday (July 22, 2024) in Mykonos, by police officers of the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate, against whom a case file was filed for participation in a gang that committed distinguished thefts by complicity and by continuation.

The case also involves 3 accomplices who were arrested.

How did they act?

In particular, as determined by the study of their mode of action (modus operandi) and the combined use of the data collected, the perpetrators had formed a criminal group (gang) and with a different composition each time committed thefts at tourist accommodation from which they took money, valuables , clothing items, watches and personal items.

The deconstruction and termination of their criminal activity is the result of the implementation of targeted police planning, in the context of which an open-air “kavatza” area was identified, where they temporarily resided inside a tent and hid their loot between rocks.

From the evidence found and the analysis of the case data, seven cases of theft of money and objects whose value is estimated at over 55,000 euros have been revealed.

It is noted that a shotgun that was stolen in 2022 was found among the evidence.

During the search for the perpetrators, patrolling police officers and O.P.K.E. yesterday, in the early hours of the morning, they spotted the defendants, moving near the “kavatza”, who, perceiving the impending control, ran away. However, later during the investigation, the 32-year-old was found again and arrested as he tried to escape.

The 32-year-old arrested will be taken to the Syros First Instance Prosecutor’s Office.

Part of the confiscated findings that were identified, were attributed.
