Another case of domestic violence with a victim causes shock a 36-year-old Roma woman from Chalkida, while there are a series of violent incidents described in the lawsuit she filed against her ex-partner. The most recent incident happened on Wednesday night, at 9pm, outside her ex-partner’s father’s house. According to the lawsuit, the ex-partner tried to injure her with his hands and threatened her verbally. Another serious incident took place on February 12, 2022, inside the woman’s home and in front of their children. He hit her on the back and head, causing bruises, and tried to suffocate her by squeezing her necks. The woman managed to resist and hit him in the genitals, thus avoiding the risk of losing her life. On March 28, 2022, back inside her home, her ex-partner threw an object at her, bruising her leg. In a separate incident on the same day, he threatened her with a firearm.

Despite the seriousness of these incidents, the 36-year-old chose not to resort to available support services. He was refused accommodation in a safe place of accommodation, although it was possible to be accommodated in a safe place for protection. In addition, he refused to install the panic button application, which offers immediate notification of the authorities in case of danger.

The 36-year-old’s reasons for refusing help may include fear of reprisals, a lack of trust in the authorities or a desire to remain close to her family and children despite the risks.
