THE Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands through the Deputy Mayor Spyros Halikiopoulos clarifies that: the temporary issues in waste collection observed in some areas in recent weeks are mainly due to a lack of staff, following the expiry of the contracts of many employees who had been employed on fixed-term contracts in the past.

“We inform you that the recruitment of new staff has now been successfully completed and significant measures have been taken to address and control the problem. As a result, the situation has already shown significant improvement and we expect waste collection to return to normal within the next few days.”

Corfu

A normalcy that, according to photos posted by the island’s residents themselves on social media, has not yet arrived and will probably take a long time to arrive. Garbage everywhere, bins are overflowing and the public health of tourists and residents is threatened by odors and germs.

Corfu

THE tried to contact the municipality of central Corfu and received the wrath of the mayor for the submission of the report and the information that the garbage trucks run 4 routes every day. But is it enough? The photos taken by the citizens of Corfu reflect the reality.
