The control continues in the wider area of ​​Thessaly for sheep and goat plague, by the competent services of the Region of Thessaly and specialist veterinarians, with the aim of dealing with the phenomenon and limiting the spread of the disease in animals.

Today the regional governor of Thessaly, Dimitris Kouretas, held a press conference presenting the data of the controls and the measures taken to deal with the disease, noting that the tracking of cases of plague of ruminants in Larissa and Thessaly continues.

At the same time he emphasized that “about 230,000 animals have been checked, while according to the data, 9,200 animals are for slaughter and so far 7,000 have been killed”.

He estimated that with the way and the speed with which the whole mechanism has worked, within the week the tracking will be completed and then re-checks will be made.

At the same time, Mr. Kouretas noted that the issue of the movement of animal feed will also be examined, while he emphasized that the “model” followed by the Region of Thessaly will also be followed in other Regions of the country.

It is noted that according to her announcement Veterinary Service of the Region of Thessaly regarding the measures applied, it is prohibited for any reason (slaughter, fattening, breeding) to move goats, sheep and lambs throughout the Region of Thessaly until the epidemiological investigation of the disease is completed and a new decision is issued.

It is also prohibited to slaughter goats, sheep and lambs in the slaughterhouses of the Region of Thessaly, until Friday 2/08/2024but also the entry into Thessaly of goats, sheep and lambs of Romanian origin for any reason.

At the same time, a Decision is taken to isolate all the sheep and goat fattening farms of the Region of Thessaly until the completion of the epidemiological investigation of the disease and for at least 21 days. In addition, a Decision is taken to isolate cattle farms that coexist with fattening sheep and goat farms, have the same staff and use common vehicles and equipment.

Finally, the movement (slaughter, fattening or breeding) of cattle to and from the PE is prohibited. Trikala and the P.E. Larissa, until the completion of the epidemiological and clinical investigation of the disease within the protection and surveillance zones and the determination of their extent.
