According to ERT information, the specific owner of the farm had recently purchased animals from a livestock dealer, who either transported infected animals without knowing it, or the virus was present in his car.

Speaking to ERT, the Director of Veterinary and Agricultural Economy, Nikos Fotinias, stated that the 273 sheep will be slaughtered and all the protocol of actions foreseen will be followed. Once again, he appealed for support with the recruitment of new Veterinarians in all the Regional Units, not only AM-Th.

He also requested that staff be hired for the operation of the Exotic Diseases center in Nea Orestiada, where samples could be taken to detect zoonotic diseases. As – as he said – the space is there, the equipment is there, the staff is not there.

Yesterday, Thursday, two cases were also detected in Ilia. According to information, one is in the area of ​​Nemouta and the other in Bartholomew. Also, cases were detected in the previous days in a unit of the prefecture of Heraklion.

According to data from the HYPAAT published yesterday, the number of cases of the plague of small ruminants now stands at 35 after new results of the controls. Also according to official figures, the animals that have been killed so far amount to 13,000, but understandably this number is expected to increase.
