A 65-year-old Roma woman was arrested for the crime of human trafficking in Thessaloniki.
According to the Police, the woman was begging outside a supermarket with her grandson, only 5.5 years old, with the aim of exploiting the income from the child’s begging!
The little boy was taken to a hospital in the city for accommodation and a child psychiatric examination.
The announcement of the General Police Directorate of Thessaloniki states:
A 65-year-old citizen was arrested yesterday (04-08-2024) for the crime of human trafficking, who was brought by police officers of the Lagada Security Department to the Anti-Trafficking Department of the Organized Crime and Human Trafficking Sub-Directorate of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate.
As it turned out, the arrested woman was begging together with a minor, outside a supermarket in the Lagada area, with the aim of exploiting the income from his begging.
A sum of money was confiscated from the 65-year-old woman’s possession, while the minor was taken to a city hospital for accommodation and a child psychiatric examination.
The arrested woman was taken to the competent judicial authorities.
