Arrested as a suspect for the fire that broke out in Vari on 19/6, a 66-year-old man, a university doctor, who even reportedly taught at Greek Police schools, fifteen years ago.

The man is said to be facing psychological problems in the last period of time and it is being examined if he is the person recorded on video from a security camera, setting the fire on the side road of Vari-Koropio.

It is recalled that the fire, due to the strong winds blowing in the area, spread dangerously and caused damage to houses and businesses.

The 66-year-old was arrested on Monday morning by men from the Arson Crimes Division as part of an arrest warrant.

It is worth noting that the arrested person did not confess to the aforementioned fire, but admitted that he used a lighter to set four other fires on 8 and 9/6 in dry grass in the area of ​​Heroma Vari.

These four fires were contained in a short period of time.

His identification was made through testimonies and the collection of video material.

The 66-year-old was taken to the Athens District Attorney’s Office yesterday and is being held until he apologizes again.

At the same time, the Elefsina Fire Service arrested a 33-year-old man on August 1st as the culprit of causing three fires, by intention and as a result, in the area.

The accused was brought to the Prosecutor’s Office on August 3 and his pre-trial detention was ordered.
