In her statement, she referred to the very difficult situation that prevails in the area of Dionysos due to the fire the mayor Katerina Maichosoglou.
“The huge fire that occurred yesterday in the Varnava area, affects our municipality, as well as neighboring municipalities, with great severity and under adverse weather conditions, with strong winds and high temperatures. The ground forces of the Fire Department and our volunteers are fighting to limit the extent of the fire, so that it does not spread”, said the mayor of Dionysos and then emphasized, among other things:
“I address everyone with a sense of responsibility, as it requires the immediate and absolute attention of all of us. Our first priority at this time is the protection of human life. I ask everyone to faithfully follow the instructions of the authorities and evacuate the areas immediately, according to the decision of the Civil Protection.
Firefighters, volunteers and all involved agencies are working non-stop under adverse conditions to contain the disaster and protect us. I thank them from the bottom of my heart for the dedication and self-sacrifice they always display. Let’s make it easier for them by working together and staying out of danger areas.
Our municipality is located in state of emergency and we take care of providing immediate help to those who need it (we have already taken care of accommodation, means of transport, etc.). Also, we are in constant contact with the authorities to ensure that all the necessary actions are taken to contain the fire.”
Ms. Maihosoglu concluded by saying: “In these critical moments, solidarity and unity are more necessary than ever. The test we are facing is great, but I am sure that with the determination and cooperation of all of us, we will manage to overcome it”.
Since yesterday, the Municipality of Dionysos has taken a series of measures to serve those in need. It provides water and food to those who are actively involved in managing the situation, but also to those who need assistance.
The Anixis football field, at 37 Lykavittou Street, will remain open to receive stray animals at risk or in possession in the event of an evacuation, as provided for in the operational plan in the event of a fire. As well as the closed Spring.
The town hall of Dionysos, the Cultural Center of Ag. Stefanou and the Social Grocery store have remained open since the first moment the fire broke out. A bus has been put at the disposal of the citizens to move to the Cultural Center Ag. Stefanos, while available hotel rooms were secured. At the Cultural Center Ag. Stefanou has specialized staff to provide first aid. The list of vulnerable groups is updated.”
