DIKAFKA, with heavy vehicles, created in a short period of time, yesterday night and in the morning hours today, fire zones in Attica
By providing personnel and means and making them active wherever they are requested, in accordance with the instructions of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, the Armed Forces are assisting in dealing with the large fire in Attica.
The Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, the Deputy Minister Yiannis Kefalogiannis have been at the Ministry of National Defense since the morning, to coordinate the deployment of personnel and means of the Armed Forces, and at the respective General Staffs, the head of the General Staff General Dimitrios Houpis, the head of the General Staff Lieutenant General Georgios Kostidis, the head of the General Directorate of Anti-Navy Dimitrios-Eleftherios Kataras and the head of the General Directorate of Defense, Vice Admiral Demosthenes Grigoriadis.
As it became known from the Ministry of National Defence, in addition to the availability of the aerial firefighting fleet of the Air Force (CL -215/415 CANADAIR firefighting aircraft and CH – 47D CHINOOK helicopters), the Construction and Natural Response Management is helping to deal with the fire in Attica of Disasters (DIKAFKA) – which was recently established in the context of the “Agenda 2030” – under the instructions of its commander, Lieutenant General Michael Klouvas. The commander of DIKAFKA is in constant communication from the field with the Unified Coordination Center for Operations and Crisis Management of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, through the liaison officer.
Among other things, it is reported that DIKAFKA, with heavy vehicles (“grader”), created within a short period of time, last night and in the morning hours today, fire zones in Attica, like the one that was created around 2 am. today in Dionysos and helped prevent the fire from spreading to the residential area.
It should be pointed out that the Armed Forces are also involved in fighting the fire in Attica with 2 “Deucalion” teams and 6 “Xenokratis” teams.
Also, starting today, DIKAFKA is assisting with a number of buses and two-wheelers in the evacuation of residential areas, while strengthening its patrols in high-risk areas, in order to prevent and detect any new fires in time.
Finally, the Armed Forces have allocated for surveillance 422 personnel and 211 vehicles that carry out patrols that pass through mountainous areas throughout the Greek territory, while they have manned 7 outposts with 25 personnel and 13 vehicles.
