44 were agroforestry fires the last twenty-four hours across the country. Of these, according to the Fire Department, 33 were dealt with immediately, in their initial stage, while the fire brigade is still dealing with 11.

In fact, as Civil Protection sources report, 15 of the fires that broke out were particularly dangerous – several next to settlements – and the assistance of aerial means was needed for their management.

More specifically:

-At 09:45, a fire broke out in a forest area in the Marathos area of ​​Evrytania. 26 firefighters with 1 pedestrian section team, 8 vehicles, 5 aircraft and 4 helicopters responded to the scene while OTA water tankers provided assistance. After two hours of the fire, there was no active front.

-At 11:58, a fire broke out in low vegetation in the Plaka area of ​​Litochoro, Pieria. To put it out, 58 firefighters with 2 forest commando groups, 17 vehicles, 3 aircraft and 2 helicopters with the assistance of OTA water carriers and project machinery attempted to extinguish it. At 12:55 an evacuation message was issued by 112 from Plaka Litochoro to Katerini and Leptokarya while the fire brigade managed to bring it under control in 2.5 hours.

-At 12:42, a fire broke out in a forest area in the Vasaiika area of ​​Ioannina which the Fire Department brought under control within an hour. 40 firefighters with 2 forest commando teams, 12 vehicles, 3 aircraft and 2 helicopters worked at the scene. At the same time assistance was provided by local water bodies and project machinery.

-At 13:26, a fire broke out in low vegetation in the area of ​​Pavliada Amfilochia in Etoloakarnania. The fire, which was brought under control in 30 minutes, was attempted by 12 firefighters with 4 vehicles and 4 aircraft, with the assistance of OTA water tankers.

-At 1:54 p.m., a fire broke out in an agroforestry area in the area of ​​Istiaia Edipsos in Evia. The fire was brought under control within an hour and 17 firefighters with 7 vehicles and 2 aircraft responded to the scene.

-At 14:48, a fire broke out in low vegetation at the junction of Makedonia and Machis Marathona streets in Marathona Attica, which was controlled within 40 minutes. 22 firefighters, with 8 vehicles and 3 helicopters, responded to the scene.

-At 14:58, a fire broke out in a forest area in the area of ​​Ampelonas Filiaton, Thesprotia. At this time there is an active front in a difficult place while no settlement is threatened. 15 firefighters with 4 vehicles and 6 aircraft are trying to extinguish the fire.

-At 15:18, a fire broke out in a forest area in the area of ​​Spatharis, Tropaion, Arcadia. According to information from the Civil Protection, the fire is under control and 50 firefighters with 3 forestry teams, 14 vehicles, 7 aircraft and 2 helicopters are operating at the scene. Subscriptions are provided by local water bodies.

-At 15:27, a fire broke out in low vegetation in Rhodes, which was brought under control within 20 minutes. 20 firefighters with 1 group of forest commandos and 5 vehicles attempted the scene.

-At 3:37 p.m., a fire broke out in an agro-forestry area in the Neochori region of Arcadia. The fire was controlled within an hour and 15 firefighters with 1 group of hikers, 4 vehicles, 1 aircraft and 1 helicopter responded to the scene, while there was assistance from OTA water carriers.

-At 15:49, a fire broke out in an agroforestry area in the area of ​​Metaxochori, Municipality of Acharna, Asterousia, Crete. The fire was brought under control within an hour and 16 firefighters with 8 vehicles and 1 helicopter attempted.

-At 16:06, a fire broke out in a forest area in the Kakopleuri area of ​​Trikala. According to information from the Civil Protection, the fire is almost contained and 32 firefighters with 2 forestry teams, 7 vehicles and 3 aircraft are working at the scene. At the same time, assistance is provided by local water bodies and project machinery.

-At 16:16, a fire broke out in a forest area in the area of ​​Arbouna, Kalavryton, Achaia, which was controlled in 30 minutes. They attempted 8 firefighters with 4 vehicles and 1 helicopter.

-At 4:22 p.m., a fire broke out in an agroforestry area in the Ambelaki area of ​​Tripoli. The fire was controlled within an hour and 24 firefighters with 1 group of hikers, 8 vehicles and 2 aircraft and 1 helicopter attempted, while OTA water tankers assisted.

-At 16:24, a fire broke out in a forest area in the Xirolimni area of ​​Kozani. The fire has been brought under control and 16 firefighters with 1 hiking team, 7 vehicles and 1 aircraft are operating at the scene.

The local investigative offices, as well as units of the Directorate for Combating Arson Crimes (D.A.E.E.) are investigating the causes of the fires.
