A team from the 7th Health Region is expected on the island to carry out the necessary checks to identify the causes
The dozens of cases have caused great concern gastroenteritis recorded in the last 10 days on the island of Gavdos. The doctor of the Gavdos regional clinic, V. Ambrosiadis, told SKAI that around 20 to 30 people get sick every day.
According to Mr. Ambrosiadis, last year there was no such problem and last year cases were recorded earlier, in July, without however causing concern.
However, this year the occurrence of gastroenteritis in August is much more serious and with greater intensity.
The dozens of cases daily are assumed to be from contaminated water in the island’s water supply network, due to the lack of a sewage system and the existence of cesspools.
“There is a suspicion that the cesspools they communicate with the wells and in the summer when their level rises, this problem is created,” said Mr. Ambrosiadis.
From Gavdos, the necessary steps have been taken to inform him EODY for the problem while on the island is expected ladder of the 7th Health District to make the necessary checks to identify the causes.
