In a joint statement, the trade unions of the workers demand the faithful application of the Health and Safety rules by the management of the PPA, after the injury of a worker to the leg caused by an object falling from a forklift truck (clark) on pier C 2 in Keratsini. According to the Ministry of Shipping, the injured person has been transported by PPA ambulance to a private hospital. The Federation of Port Employees of Greece (OMYLE), the Union of Technical Operators Employees of PPA and the Union of Permanent Employees of PPA in their joint statement state that they have demanded from management providing employees with the means of personal protection that are necessary from the nature of our work, but also from labor legislation.

They also request the full coverage of the necessary jobs, so that the strain of the workers does not cause such accidents.

“We believe that these remarks of ours should have been respected by the Company Managers and that the measures we proposed should have been taken in time, in order to avoid such events that mark the lives of our colleagues. We consider the Management in all respects responsible for today’s incident, where our colleague is at risk of losing his leg, as even after our last letter nothing was done regarding the issues we raised,” the joint statement said. They also add that the workers in any case are determined to continue to demand immediate measures which they will demand by any means.
