At the same time, the participants in the action set up water collection points
More than 7.5 tons of feed for the animals in 11 different places of Kapandriti, Varnavas, Marathon and Penteli, which were affected by the recent big fire, was thrown by an operational team created by order of the Minister of Environment and Energy Theodoros Skylakakis, which the Hunting Confederation of Greece, the Hunting Federation of Central Greece, as well as the hunting clubs of Attica, Evia and Boeotia contributed.
At the same time, the participants in the action formed water collection points, so that the various species of animals can take advantage of them, while the critical period before the first rains lasts.
According to the announcement, the general secretary of Forests Stathis Stathopoulos, the general director of Forests and Forest Environment Evangelos Goudoufas, the director of Forest Management Panagiotis Drougas, dozens of forest service officials, game wardens of hunting organizations, as well as volunteer hunters from associations of Attica participated in the action. , of Evia and Boeotia.
As stated by the Secretary General of Forests Stathis Stathopoulos, the main concern of the Ministry of Environment and Energy in the implementation of the overall natural restoration plan of the area is the immediate taking of relief measures for the species of life that are affected. He also pointed out that the effort will continue at regular intervals for the next two months at least, with a continuous supply of food to those species of wild fauna that have lost a vital part of their habitat and are encountering difficulties in their survival. The type of foods and seeds that have been selected appeal to a large group of mammal and bird species that are endemic to these areas. The effort is led by the local forest offices and by experts from the hunting organizations, who in the previous days had mapped and marked the peripheral locations that need intervention.
In his related statements, the president of the Hunting Confederation of Greece, Giorgos Arambatzis, stated that he placed the entire mechanism of the hunting organizations at the disposal of the Ministry of Environment and Energy, stressing that “it is crucial to support the “displaced” wildlife during the post-fire period and to help the environment to heal its wounds”.
The food was transported to the fire-affected areas and their perimeter zones by convoys of agricultural and truck vehicles.
