Competent authorities arrested a 51-year-old man for causing three fires intentionally and consecutively in a rural area in a settlement of the municipality of Doxatos, in Drama. In particular, as stated in a statement by the fire department “was arrested yesterday, as part of the spontaneous procedure by investigative officers of the P.Y. of Drama, citizen, as being responsible for causing three fires in a rural area, by intention and in succession (on August 24, 25 and 26, 2024), in the settlement of Ypsilon, of T.K. Kyrgios, of the municipality of Doxatos in Drama and was imposed an administrative fine of 1,406.25 euros».

The 51-year-old was brought before the District Court of Drama today and sentenced to 15 months in prison, with a three-month suspended sentence.

In addition, the 44-year-old woman who was arrested yesterday in Tripoli for causing two fires in a rural area, by following and by intention, was given a 3-year suspended prison sentence, and will normally serve 2 months as well as an administrative fine of 1000 euros. According to information, the 44-year-old “set the fires because she liked to see firefighters”.

It is noted that the above fires burned small areas, as the fire brigade caught up and dealt with them, before they reached dangerous proportions.
