In ELAS controls, 35 engines were found and seized, of which 26 had been removed from Italy and the Netherlands, from 2009 to 2023
Engines of cars that had been stolen during the last 15 years from Italy and the Netherlands were revealed, among other things, by the checks carried out by EL.AS. in stables, car repair shops and spare parts sales points, in areas of Thessaloniki and Pieria.
As announced, the controls were carried out between September last year and January this year, as part of a targeted operational action by police officers of the Property Crimes Department of the Thessaloniki Security Directorate, following the assistance of the Italian and Dutch Authorities.
In more detail, four businesses in the above areas were found and confiscated 35 engines coming from stolen cars, of which 26 had been taken from the Italy and her Netherlandsin the years 2009 to 2023, as it emerged in the context of international police cooperation, while another nine were removed in the years 2014 to 2022 from areas of Thessaloniki and Attica.
In addition, five engines were located, the serial numbers of which had been defaced in order to conceal their legitimate origin.
According to a police announcement, charges were filed against the owners of the businesses for accepting and distributing the proceeds of crime and forgery, which were submitted to the competent prosecutors.
