The eyes of all the people of Thessaloniki and not only, were attracted today by the legendary “bugs”, or Volkswagen Beetles, which paraded inside the 88th International Exhibition of Thessaloniki as well as in the main streets of the city.

Since this year TIF has Germany as its honored country, the legendary Volkswagen Beetle cars could not be missing from the streets of Thessaloniki, reports thestival.gr.

The Scarab Club of Thessaloniki accepted the invitation of the German Consulate, with these unique and special cars, which take you to another era and take you back in time, to “flood” central streets of Thessaloniki, stealing the impressions and hearts of the spectators.

They then ended up at the TIF exhibition center, giving attendees the opportunity to enjoy a unique spectacle and an impressive setting that highlights German tradition and innovation.

In his statements, the President of the Scarab Club of Thessaloniki, Christos Dagdalenis, said that the ride through the streets of the city with these legendary vehicles lasted about half an hour, while he emphasized that even today the “katsaridakia” have a great monetary value.

“We were invited by the German Consulate which is the honored country this year at the exhibition, we accepted Germany’s invitation and have taken a walk in Thessaloniki with our scarabs. We have taken a walk through the 88th TIF and have ended up at the arch of HANTH. In fact, in a little while we will again take a walk of one of the TIF and end up at the German pavilion to take pictures from there as well.

Before that, we walked for about half an hour in the city center. In particular, we descended from Military Hospital 424, then we marched to Tsimiski, descended to the Port and crossed Nikis Avenue, then we ascended from the Prefecture to end up at TIF.

The dates of the cars start from 1956, which is the oldest car in Thessaloniki, and reach 1979, which is also the newest in the city. All the cars still have a great monetary value”, said Mr. Dagdalenis.

It is noted that the Volkswagen Beetle, or “cockroach”, with its special and characteristic appearance, has been loved by generations of drivers all over the world. From 1938 when production began until 2003, it managed to sell over 21.5 million vehicles, making it one of the most successful cars of all time.

The Scarab Club of Thessaloniki, which gathers the lovers of these classic vehicles, was founded in 2014 and now has 70 members, who share their passion for these historic vehicles.

Finally, the club organizes regular events and meetings, with the aim of preserving the legacy of the classic “cockroaches” and strengthening the community of their friends.
