The 46-year-old driver who drove away the couple and their 2-year-old child in Thermi Thessaloniki on Wednesday morning was found to be driving five times with a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

According to information, the first time was in 2007 and the last in 2020. In fact, in 2014 his license was revoked for 90 days and in 2017 for 180. The issue is that the law stipulates that in order to permanently revoke the license the driver must found (as a misdemeanor) with alcohol over 0.5 twice, within two years. He went one over the limit and one under, within two years, so he was spared the deduction, which would have spared the couple and their unborn child.

Previous violations related to driving under the influence of alcohol have been recorded in the driver’s history, the Police also said in a statement.

In the announcement of the Hellenic Police Headquarters, it is noted that the corresponding administrative measures and fines were imposed on the 46-year-old driver for all the violations, in accordance with the current legislation.

Regarding the traffic accident of September 11, the Police report that the Traffic Service that was charged acted in accordance with the applicable provisions of the Road Traffic Code (KOK) and imposed on the offending driver the penalties prescribed by law.

In particular, it was established that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, so in addition to the criminal sanctions, the corresponding – according to the KOK – administrative sanctions were imposed.

“The Greek Police attaches particular importance to dealing with traffic violations, with an emphasis on cases of driving under the influence of alcohol, which pose a serious risk to public safety. Having intensified checks on the entire road network and increased the attestation of violations, it inexorably imposes the penalties prescribed by law on violators. Road safety is a top priority and the actions of the Traffic Police are aimed at preventing accidents and protecting the lives of all citizens”the announcement concludes.

The 34-year-old woman lost the baby she was carrying

The 34-year-old woman, who was carried away by the 46-year-old driver along with her husband and their 2-year-old child, unfortunately lost the baby she was carrying.

According to information, the 34-year-old lost the 5-month-old fetus and underwent surgery.

This development was made known by a relative of the 34-year-old.

The surgery – which was completed – was done to terminate the pregnancy and remove the fetus, according to sources at the “Papageorgiou” Hospital. The surgery was deemed necessary because negative fetal pulses had been found, as reported by the same sources.

The couple – the 37-year-old father and the 34-year-old mother – are being intubated in the ICU of the “Papageorgiou” Hospital.

Their child is hospitalized out of danger at the Pediatric Surgery Clinic of the same hospital.

Additional prosecution is expected against the 46-year-old
After the loss of the fetus, it is expected that additional prosecution will be brought against the 46-year-old driver, who – according to the indictment – was driving under the influence of alcohol and is being held pending his apology to the 3rd ordinary investigator of Thessaloniki.
