The Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate in collaboration with a Special Squad of Policemen of the Attica Security Directorate, proceeded to dismantle a criminal organization, whose members were allegedly active in committing distinguished motorcycle thefts in Attica and Mykonos, subsequently falsifying their identification data.

Three -3- members of the organization, aged 18, 21, and 24, were arrested, while in the case file filed against them for – as the case may be – criminal organization – gang, forgery, aggravated theft, complicity and follow-up, as well as violations of the legislation on the K.O.K. and foreigners, one more person is included.

An investigation was conducted in the context of which it emerged that the defendants, having set up a criminal organization, with distinct roles, continuous action and with the aim of obtaining illegal income, committed distinguished thefts of motorcycles, which they removed from various areas of Attica and Mykonos.

In particular, after targeting the two-wheelers, they inspected the places where they were kept and, bypassing the various security measures that existed, removed them. Then, they moved them to a special area and with the equipment they had, they falsified their identification data (chassis numbers, engine numbers, etc.), in order to make it difficult to check them in a possible investigation.

The targeted controls of OPKE police had a catalytic role in ending their action. and of the Mykonos Police Sub-Directorate, with the 18-year-old and the 21-year-old being captured in recent days on rural roads of Mykonos, riding and driving stolen motorcycles without license plates. In fact, the 18-year-old was caught making dangerous maneuvers, while the 21-year-old was found not to have the required driver’s license.

From the further utilization of the preliminary investigation data, it was found that the above two motorcycles had been given to their co-accused, the 24-year-old and the other person-member of the organization included in the case file.

According to the investigation so far, the members of the organization are involved in -3- distinguished motorcycle thefts in Athens and Mykonos as well as -5- cases of forgery of two-wheelers, engines and motorcycle frames.

In physical searches as well as searches carried out in storage areas, among other things, the following were found and seized:

  • -5- two-wheelers where one had been reported stolen, while some did not have a frame number,
  • -3- frames and -13- motorcycle engines,
  • license plate, which corresponds to a two-wheeler that had been reported stolen,
  • pair of license plates that had been reported stolen/lost,
  • wheel, cutter, drill,
  • -3- mobile phones and driving license.

The confiscated traffic license will be sent to the Authority that issued it, the evidence (motorcycles, skeletons, etc.) will be sent for examination to the competent workshop of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, while other parts and spare parts to the competent Customs for safekeeping.

Those arrested were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office.
