The photographer and traveler Plato Maximos Mavropoulos has died. He had the professional status of a chemist but he was involved in photography since his student years.
As he recounted: “As an exiled Constantinopolitan myself and a descendant of 5 generations of Asia Minor, I captured with my lens the ruined scenes in Konpolis, Kydonies, Moschonisia, Fokaia, Smyrna, Mountainous Ephesus, Makri-Levisi, Cappadocia , Pontus, Imbro-Tenedos for more than thirty years (1967-2004)”.
In his “mature” photographic activity, he was also involved in publishing photo albums. The most important of these: Aegean Wealth (in 3 editions), Yannis Ritsos, Roots of Romiosyny (Foreword by Yannis Tsarouhis), Ancient Greek Theaters, In Pauline (Bilingual edition), Yannis Ritsos Visuals, Ev Agonizesthai, Journey to the Bitter Homeland.
A special place among his favorites, as he had confided, are the albums about Yiannis Ritsos.
His funeral will be held tomorrow in Chalandri at 11 am, in the Church of the Transfiguration of the Savior.
