The Thessaloniki First Instance Prosecutor’s Office ordered a preliminary examination for a case that saw the light of day in the previous 24 hours through electronic media, for symptoms of poisoning allegedly suffered by restaurant customers after a previous dinner in a restaurant in Thessaloniki, on the occasion of the 88th TIF.

Based on the reports, the head of the First Instance Prosecutor’s Office of Thessaloniki, Dimitris Smyrnis, instructed the first instance prosecutor to order an investigation to determine if criminal responsibilities arise. According to reports, the offenses being investigated are “bodily harm caused by negligence, serial” and “food poisoning”. Besides, according to the prosecutor’s order, it is requested that a technical control be carried out on food that may have been confiscated.

As part of the investigation, people who participated in the dinner will be asked to testify, while medical certificates will be requested.

The “controversial” meal

It is recalled that a great disturbance occurred last Saturday, the day of the opening of the TIF, after a meal hosted by a systemic bank in a well-known restaurant, in the heart of Thessaloniki, which in the past has received officials and high-profile clients.

This is a lunch attended by approximately 40 businessmen from Thessaloniki and Northern Greece, clients of the bank. However, things did not turn out well at all. A few hours after the meal, most of the diners developed symptoms of food poisoning, vomiting and diarrhea.

Some were even taken to hospitals and some of them had a really rough night. The same sources state that it is most likely that the harm was caused by the first raw dish that was served (crab with roe), as the few who did not consume the particular dish did not show symptoms.
