Conviction of a 55-year-old man for using fake diplomas
He organized lectures and seminars in various regions of Greece where he spoke about the well-being of people, advertising a profile of a scientist with knowledge and research in the fields of Medicine, Biology, Neurosciences and Theology, while he allegedly also presented relevant degrees from abroad Universities.
He was even invited to speak on television sets, until in 2017 complaints were made against him by scientific bodies that caused the investigation by the Corps of Health Inspectors.
As part of this investigation, it appears that he was found to have used fake degrees from foreign universities, and for that reason he was subsequently charged with using a forged document.
He is a 55-year-old man who was found guilty by the Three-member Court of Appeal of Thessaloniki and sentenced to 18 months in prison, with a 3-year suspension, without recognition of mitigating circumstances.
These were degrees from academic institutions that did not exist or did not award such degrees, the district attorney said, among other things, in his plea, pleading guilty.
He was previously convicted, in the first degree, by the Misdemeanor Court of Katerini, which “punished” him, for the same act, with a 2-year prison sentence, again suspended.
The 55-year-old did not appear at the appeal hearing and was represented by a solicitor who denied the charge. He stated that his principal obtained his degree as a physiatrist in Germany and that he never practiced professionally as a doctor.
He also emphasized that the accused obtained diplomas by doing remote courses online, while he had no intention of misleading anyone.
