“When we want to see the public space, which belongs to all of us, it would be good to know legally what has been occupied,” said the minister, among other things
In the standards of the MyCoast application, through which citizens can check whether the legality of the concession conditions is respected on the beaches they are on and submit a relevant complaint in cases of exceeding the concessions or arbitrary occupation, the ministry plans to “press” Digital Governance for a new application regarding the illegal occupation of public space, sidewalks, etc.
As the Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, pointed out in his radio interview with Parapolitika, “when we want to see the public space, which belongs to all of us, it would be good for us all to know legally what has been occupied”. He even clarified that in collaboration with the Ministry of the Interior, now through a platform prepared by the ministry, citizens will know when it is illegal to occupy a square, sidewalks, public road. “In six months we will be ready for this application to go live, while at the same time we will build the tools for the municipalities to be able to put on the map the legal lands they have granted.” In the meantime, he underlined that by the end of the year the issuance of the ten most popular certificates will have been abolished.
Mr. Papastergiou, referring to smart readiness, said that it is a financial tool that has no criteria and covers most of the cost of installing optical fiber in apartment buildings. The program subsidizes the implementation of works related to the installation of infrastructure that will facilitate the transformation of a building into a “smart” one. In the meantime, he also talked about the second voucher, the Giga bit voucher, “which with 80 million euros pays the difference between a simple connection and its upgrade to an optical fiber connection”.
Regarding the installation of traffic cameras, the minister stressed that the efforts of the police and traffic should be reinforced with technical means. “In 2025, with fast but also sustainable procedures, with digital means, we are going to find a way that will work” said Mr. Papastergiou, referring to sending the calls on the same day or the next day of the violation.
Finally, regarding the Land Registry, he underlined that “in the last two months with the new artificial intelligence tool, we are getting a lot more cases, things are getting better”.
