According to regional governor Oleg Sinegubov, the attack took place while dozens of residents were “sleeping” – Two people are hospitalized in serious condition
A Russian attack during the night vs building complexes at Kharkiv resulted in them being injured 21 people last night, including three minors, aged 8 to 17, the regional governor announced today.
“21 people were injured, including three children, a 17-year-old boy, a 17-year-old girl and an 8-year-old girl,” wrote Oleg Sinegubov on Telegram. Eight people are hospitalized, two of them in serious condition, he added.
The strike was carried out late last night in a district of Kharkiv (north-east), a city located very close to the border with Russia and which before the war had a population of 1.4 million.
Russia “targeted a shared apartment building with aerial bombs,” the president complained Volodymyr Zelensky on social media.
Dozens of residents were “sleeping”, according to Oleg Shinegupov. Two high-rise apartment buildings were damaged, the governor said.
Overnight, rescuers with the help of flashlights were searching the wreckage of one of the affected buildings, an AFP reporter from the scene reported.
In one hallway, a resident, shaking and sobbing uncontrollably, held tightly to a wall, afraid to go down the stairs and out of the building.
“Everything will be fine,” a rescuer calmly told her, holding her hand in order to lead her to the exit. “Mom,” she kept repeating.
As soon as she managed to get off, she hugged Alexandra’s mother, who was also shocked.
“He is terrified,” Alexandra explained to AFP. At the time of the bombing “we were sleeping”, she added.
The mayor of Kharkiv Igor Terekhovwho was at the scene, assured that it was a civilian target and there was “nothing military there”.
The Ukrainian Air Force announced today that Russian forces shot down two missiles and 80 drones overnight, most of which were intercepted.
President Zelensky, reacting to the attack on Kharkiv, again called for Ukraine to be able to use long-range weapons against Russian territory.
“We need to strengthen our capabilities to better protect lives and guarantee security,” the Ukrainian head of state said today, promising to “convince” allies.
