In the Amazon documentary dedicated to him, her goalkeeper Real Madrid he talks about his career, the disappointing presence of his national team at the World Cup in Qatar, but also about his decision to leave the “red devils” after his conflict with the coach.
“After the failure in Qatar, a lot happened. There were quite a few disagreements within the team and I remember telling myself that the situation has to improve. I was looking for ideas to change the atmosphere with the arrival of the new coach”he initially reported, then went into detail about why he made the decision to quit the Belgium national team, following Tedesco’s decision to strip him of the captain’s armband ahead of a game against Austria.
“I was hoping to wear the captain’s armband in this game, as recognition for the work and years I have spent with the national team. But, on the day of the match I found out that Lukaku will be the captain. After the match, I explained to the coach how I felt about his decision and all he did was threaten me saying that if I left the team, he would tell everything to the Media. I told him that I didn’t see what he had to gain from it and that I didn’t want to continue with the team. I no longer felt happy in the national team, so it was better to leave and devote myself fully to Real Madrid”.
