New police announcement What it says
The Hellenic Police Headquarters announces that publications referring to alleged facts, with evidence from the case file, regarding the death of a foreigner in a Police Department in Athens, do not correspond to reality.
In addition, it is emphasized that a police officer never provided information regarding the above incident to a third person, except to the prosecuting authorities, as he must under the legislative framework under which he operates.
The Hellenic Police always operates with respect for the rights of citizens, the observance of the law and the protection of human life.
Regarding the incident (recall the Notice from 26-09-2024), from the first moment the Greek Police acted with full transparency, immediately filing a case file and informing the competent Prosecutor, while, as expressly provided for in the current legislation, it was ordered and is already being acted upon Preliminary Administrative Examination, to investigate any disciplinary responsibilities.
At the same time, by order of the Minister of Citizen Protection, Michalis Chrysochoidis, the investigation was forwarded to the Ombudsman, with the aim of a rapid and complete clarification of the case within the framework of the mechanism for investigating incidents of police arbitrariness.
The facts are described with a number of data and statements collected by the Athens Security Sub-Directorate of the Attica Security Directorate, for the full and complete information of the competent Prosecutor.
