The mayor was put on holiday again NaousasNikos Koutsoyiannis, by decision of the secretary general of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace, Giannis Savvas, for the case of leasing a refreshment bar that concerns his previous mayoral term in the period 2014 – 2019.
Mr.Koutsoyiannis he was initially placed on leave in March 2024, but returned to his duties when the Supreme Court accepted his appeal against the previous conviction. The case was brought back to the Three-member Misdemeanor Appeal Court of Thessaloniki, which found him guilty again, reducing his sentence by one month, imposing a 3-month prison sentence, with a 3-year suspension, for breach of duty.
On the occasion of the decision for a new holiday from mayoral duties, the mayor of Naoussa speaks, in a related announcement, of a “megaton scandal with the signature of the appointed c.g. of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace”.
“The court decision by which I was convicted of breach of duty demonstrates the problematic functioning of the justice system as it convicts me of illegal moral gain(!). Although this decision is unprecedented in the annals of criminal justice and lacks a legal basis, in any case it did not establish what the legislation provides for the position of an elected official on a holiday, i.e. the intentional infliction of financial damage on the Municipality. And yet! With an unimaginably immoral decision, G.G. of the Decentralized Administration has arbitrarily completed the indictment since this time it puts me on holiday for an offense I was never accused of! Only a man on an ordered mission could commit such an atrocity,” the mayor says.
Mr. Koutsoyiannis, through the relevant announcement, calls his leadership Ministry of Interior to proceed “to the immediate restoration of the injustice committed against me and at the same time to remove from the position of General Secretary of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace this wound of self-administration”.
He also adds that he will immediately file an appeal against the decision in the highest courts of the country for its cancellation and disappearance and that he will file lawsuits against those responsible.
