The aurora, an extremely rare phenomenon caused by a powerful geomagnetic storm, lit up the Greek horizon, with spectacular results
In front of an otherworldly setting, the “painted in red” by solar storm, sky, which hit the Earth last Tuesday, its inhabitants were found Northern Greece with some of them capturing this rare phenomenon on video and cameras.
Those who were on Mount Paiko, next to Goumenissa, had a more privileged view, a fact they show with their posts on social media. Konstantinos Emmanouilidis, an amateur astrophotographer, was one of the lucky ones as he was lucky enough to capture the solar storm at its best.
The aurora, an extremely rare phenomenon caused by a powerful geomagnetic storm, lit up the Greek horizon. The red color of the sky is due to collisions of lower energy particles with oxygen atoms at high altitudes after intense solar activity that causes a huge ejection of solar plasma from the surface of the Sun towards Earth.
The photos are from Mount Paiko, Hortiati Thessaloniki, Moudania Chalkidiki, Plagiari Thessaloniki, Livadia, Evia, Crete, Lesvos, Corfu and Penteli Attica!
