Earlier this year, UP.FIT, a division of Unplugged Performance unveiled the world’s first Tesla Cybertruck police vehicle. The car debuted in a video showing it driving alone at night with flashing lights accompanied by dramatic music.

Now, the Irvine Police Department in California has enlisted UP.FIT to unveil the first Tesla Cybertruck patrol car in the US.

A video posted to social media earlier this week shows the patrol car, an expensive investment for the Irvine Police Department worth $153,175.03.

Police spokeswoman Chief Constable Carrie Davies said “the Cybertruck is a replacement for another DARE program vehicle that is being retired due to age.”

The police department’s post reads: “The vehicle will support our DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) drug and gang prevention program and community outreach efforts.

Although the fully equipped vehicle will not be used as a patrol car, it can respond to emergencies and help the community when needed.

For more than three decades, DARE officers have been driving attention-grabbing, one-of-a-kind vehicles that never fail to intrigue and excite students. The Irvine Police Department (IPD) believes in continuing education for students and operates one of only two DARE programs in the entire state.”

“IPD is passionately seeking unique and innovative ways to connect with our community and the youth of Irvine,” it noted.
