Thessaloniki: The accused for the 100 kilos of cocaine are released unconditionally

by

The eight arrested for the load of 100 kilos of cocaine that were seized last week in northern Greece were released without restrictive conditions after their apologies.

After a marathon process, which began at 08:00 and ended after midnight, investigators and prosecutors ruled that everyone should be released.

Among the accused is the owner of a fruit trading company, three employees, a driver and three customs brokers, among them a woman.

In their apologies, the defendants denied any connection to the case, declaring ignorance of the contents of the container. According to information from the company, it was reported that the container was to be picked up by another trader.

The drugs were camouflaged in a container of bananas from Ecuador.

The cargo had arrived at the port of Thessaloniki on a route from Malta. It was located with the assistance of a specially trained dog and then placed under discreet surveillance. Eventually it was found that he was transferred to the premises of a company based outside Veria. Following the prosecutor’s order, the arrests of the eight people involved followed.
