Dozens of adults, including young people, were found or transferred since last night to the General Hospital of Chania with symptoms of gastroenteritis.

According to the commander of the hospital, Giorgos Bea, these are 43 citizens with viral gastroenteritis and norovirus was found in a sample test. Of these, some were discharged and others remained for further hospitalization. All of them are from different areas of Chania, 27 people are aged between 18 and 23, twelve of whom are students. The rest of the patients are of various ages, the source or the area of the first infection has not been identified and according to Mr. Bea – as he told APE-MBE – he himself, as a hospital, will take measures because the specific virus is quite contagious – hyper-contagious, as the hospital administrator described it – but it is a matter that the health authorities will examine and announce the relevant public health issues.

Regarding the students who are among those who found themselves in the hospital, the commander said that he himself visited them, spoke with them and as they reported to him, they had not visited the feeding club.

Mr. Beas called on citizens to be careful, stressing that there is no need for panic or worry.
