Ten years in prison was imposed on a 40-year-old man for the murder with the headless body in Thessaloniki
The Mixed Jury Court of Thessaloniki sentenced to 10 years imprisonment a 40-year-old Iraqi who was found guilty of complicity in the murder of his 30-year-old compatriot, whose body was found headless and dismembered, in September 2020, in the area of Kato Scholario of Thessaloniki.
Another Iraqi man, 54 years old, is accused of the same case, but he seems to have fled to his homeland a few days after the crime, leaving his family in Greece.
Both the accused and the victim seem to have been involved in the trafficking of illegal immigrants, while according to the case file, the motive for the murder is estimated to be financial differences from this illegal activity.
In his confession, the 40-year-old Iraqi, of Kurdish origin, denied his participation in the crime, pointing to the 54-year-old wanted man as the perpetrator. As he said, returning from Halkidiki, his co-accused had a heated argument with the victim as the latter allegedly owed him money. Pretending that he wanted to relieve himself, the 54-year-old got out of the vehicle and was followed by the 30-year-old, the convict said, adding: “I heard a noise that referred to gunshots.”
In the end, the court found him guilty of simple complicity in homicide (per permissible change of charge), and it was decided to return to prison.
The headless body was found on a side road of the Thessaloniki-Neon Moudania highway, while the rest of the body parts scattered by animals were found in a radius of two kilometers. The skull was later found with gunshot wounds, as forensic evidence revealed.
