Members of the two families hurled curses, threats and acted threateningly against each other and against the police officers who restrained them
The trial for the murder of the 49-year-old hunter, which is being held in the second degree at the Court of Appeal of Crete in Chania, was suspended due to incidents at 10:30 in the morning.
According to zarpanews.gr, thanks to the quick and cool intervention of the police, the worst was avoided, as while the first witness, the victim’s brother, was testifying, he tried to attack the accused.
Police officers immediately intervened and restrained him and removed him from the room while the members of the two families hurled curses, threats and acted threateningly against each other and against the police officers who restrained them.
The episode was felt throughout the building as from the benches being moved, noise and commotion could be heard downstairs disturbing the rest of the proceedings as well.
The bench was lowered and the court adjourned while the members of the two families were sequestered in separate yards.
At the same time, reinforcement of the police forces was requested so that the trial could start again.
By decision of the President of Appeals, the trial started again at 11 and to everyone’s surprise, five members of each family were allowed to enter despite their unacceptable behavior.
