“I want the souls of my children to be vindicated and the shadows that weigh on me to be dispelled” declares to the mother of the two infants in Amaliada, who lost their lives consecutively over a period of three years, one every year.

The new case that came to light on the occasion of the death of a third infant of just 15 months – the child of the roommate of the 23-year-old woman who had already lost two children – has shocked society while the head of the Patras Appeals Prosecutor’s Office yesterday requested an urgent preliminary examination for the death of the three children.

At the same time, another mysterious death of an infant, just six months old, in Kato Achaia in 2021 comes to light, where, as his mother reports, the specific woman was present as she looked after the baby.

The mother’s statement in detail

“I continue and desire an investigation into the cause of death of my two infants. For the third child, I am also waiting for the results from the histological-toxicological examination. I keep shouting that I have nothing to do with it. I want the souls of my children to be vindicated and the shadows that hang over me to be dispelled.”

Voula Dimitriadou, lawyer of two mothers in Amaliada: “It’s one thing to have suspicions and another to have evidence”

“We have two preliminary investigations regarding the deaths of Irene’s two children. The first case for the death of the 2-month-old infant at the Agia Sophia Children’s Hospital has been completed and is to be evaluated in the hands of the Athens prosecutor.

The second case for the 19-day-old newborn who died while being transported to Karamandanio is pending in the Court of Criminal Procedure of Patras. There, however, all tests have shown childhood interstitial pneumonitis as the cause of death.

For the 2-month-old infant, the probable cause of death is related to the epileptic seizures he suffered during his hospitalization.

For the third child who died recently, on August 24, the checks – histological and toxicological – have started so that we can have, if we can, a specific cause of death,” said Ms. Voula Dimitriadou, who represents the two women.

As the lawyer also said, genetic testing is expected for all 3 children.

For prosecutorial intervention

“I believe that the prosecutor of Patras knows that a preliminary investigation has been underway for a very long time for all three children. I believe, with reservation, that it refers to the acceleration of the investigations for the third child or even to the inter-service cooperation of the prosecutor’s offices” said Ms. Dimitriadou.

Finally, he emphasized that both mothers are protesting because they believe they are being treated unfairly as there are no indications or proofs.

Regarding Irini, he characteristically said that “it is one thing for there to be suspicions after 3 years because the issue has now been announced, and another for there to be evidence of criminal activity”.
