The operation of the regional outdoor parking area in the area of ​​Kladisos (western entrance/exit of the city) has been successful, according to the municipal authority, noting at the same time that “more than 500 drivers use the space to park their vehicles every day.

The statistics of the Municipality of Chania in collaboration with the Urban KTEL, show that in less than four months of operation, the area has acted as a relief for the city as well as the thousands of citizens and visitors, who have the possibility to park their vehicles and then to use for free, one of the 48 routes that run during the day, with one of the five new electric buses of the Municipality of Chania. The total parking spaces of the regional open space are 120 while there are 5 configured parking spaces for the disabled.

The mayor of Chania, Panagiotis Simandirakis, spoke of an important step towards addressing the traffic issue, underlining: “The great response proves how necessary the regional parking lots are and gives us the impetus to continue with new initiatives. The expansion of the regional parking lots is a key part of the traffic solution and we are already planning our next moves to make moving around the city easier and more comfortable for everyone.” The mayor also emphasized that in the coming weeks “a package of proposals to improve traffic will be presented to the Municipal Council, among which will be included the creation of a second regional parking lot at the site of the former Markopoulos camp, which will strengthen its infrastructure Municipality of Chania and will help to decongest the center of the city”.

It is reminded that the electric buses of the Municipality carry out the above routes every day every 20 minutes, from Monday to Saturday (except Sundays and holidays), on the following route: “departure from Kladisos parking lot / stop on Kissamos Street (St. Nektariou Station – Mikrasiatissa monument manas) / stop on Kydonias Street (KTEL Bus Stop) / stop on Hatzimichali Giannari Street (Public Stop) / stop on Kissamou Street (Ikonostasi Stop) – return to the Kladisos area”.
