The Greek Police have planned to take increased road safety measures in view of the celebration of October 28, during the period from October 25 to 28, 2024, with the aim of the safe movement of citizens and the prevention of traffic accidents.
The planning was carried out by the Traffic Policing Directorate of the Hellenic Police Headquarters and includes the basic directions for the development of measures throughout the country’s road network, as well as the individual interventions, based on local problems and the particular traffic conditions that prevail , by wider area or region.
The design of the measures includes:

– Increased police presence and targeted policing at the points of the road network, where there is a frequency of traffic accidents.
– Increased traffic measures at the entrances and exits of large urban centers, where a lot of vehicle traffic is observed.
– Regulation of traffic with pedestrian traffic wardens, at key intersections, to avoid traffic congestion.
– Timely ensuring cooperation and coordination with all co-competent Bodies – Services, where this is required,
– Formation of general and special traffic control teams, focusing attention on the verification of dangerous violations (excessive speed, driving under the influence of alcohol, illegal overtaking, etc.), as well as violations that, based on statistical data, are responsible for causing serious traffic accidents ( use of mobile phones while driving).
– Increased traffic measures in places where there is a mass gathering of passengers (airports, ports, stations, etc.)
– Local traffic regulations, in which festive events will take place.
– Presence of traffic wardens at the Toll Stations of the Country to facilitate traffic, inform and advise drivers and passengers.
– Informing the citizens through the Communication Services, in any case where it becomes necessary to inform the public widely about the existence of any traffic and other problems.
As pointed out in the relevant announcement, throughout the implementation of the measures, both the personnel and the means of the Hellenic Police, mainly the Traffic Police Services, will be on increased operational readiness. Specifically, patrol cars, motorcycles and conventional vehicles will be made available, with the corresponding personnel and equipment for the effective policing of the country’s road network.
In this context, drivers are requested to:
– to be informed about the weather and the condition of the road network,
– be especially careful when driving,
– faithfully follow the provisions of the Road Traffic Code,
– drive at low speeds to better control their vehicle,
– in any case to comply with the instructions of the traffic police.
ELAS reminds us that the correct driving behavior of drivers and compliance with traffic rules are basic conditions both for safe movement and for avoiding traffic accidents.
