Failure to address the humanitarian situation in Gaza could create more insurgents, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin warned on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters in Rome, Austin also clarified that he has not seen evidence that there was a Hezbollah bunker full of cash under a hospital in Beirut, adding that Washington will continue to work with Israel to obtain more evidence.

“We have not seen evidence of that at this time. But, you know, we will continue to work with our Israeli counterparts to get better fidelity to exactly what they are investigating,” the US secretary noted.

The US defense secretary also clarified that there is no indication that any employee from the defense secretary’s office is being investigated for leaking US information about Israel’s preparations to strike Iran.

“No official from the Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD) is listed as part of this investigation,” Austin said.

The FBI announced Tuesday it is investigating the leak of top-secret documents detailing Israel’s preparations to retaliate against Iran. Social media posts, without evidence, singled out an Iranian-American employee of the US Department of Defense as being under investigation for the leak.
