She lived a nightmare for ten months at the hands of her partner, falling victim to sexual and physical abuse almost every day, even when she was pregnant with their child, while even the newborn did not escape his abusive behavior.

Fearing threats that he will harm both her and their child, the 22-year-old victim “covered” for him until she finally found the strength to turn to a structure for abused women, reporting her 24-year-old partner to the Police.

The 24-year-old, originally from the Netherlands, was referred to be tried in Mixed Jury Court of Thessalonikiwhich sentenced him to 19 years in prison. He did not appear in court nor was he represented by a lawyer, as after a previous conviction, through the automatic procedure, for another domestic incident against the same woman, he seems to have left the country.

According to the case file, the alleged acts appear to have occurred from the beginning of 2021 until October of the same year. As a relative of the 22-year-old woman testified, she had seen the victim several times with bruises on her head and body, but the young woman initially denied that the defendant was hitting her, citing various excuses, such as – for example – that she hit a piece of furniture.

In August 2021, she revealed to her the torture she was experiencing and confessed that the 24-year-old beat her, when she did not want to have sex, pulled her hair and physically abused her. “Just one month after she gave birth, he raped her and beat her again,” the witness said, conveying what the 22-year-old confided to her.

The district attorney requested his conviction, speaking in her sentence of a “ruthless and manipulative” man, who underestimated his marriage and tried to justify his actions with violence and intimidation.

Unanimouslya regular judge and jury found him guilty of aggravated battery, aggravated battery and attempted battery, battery on a pregnant woman, battery and battery, battery on a minor, domestic battery and battery.

In addition, the court decided that the sentence is immediately enforceable, which means that if the convicted person is arrested, he will be taken directly to prison.
