The holding of a tender by invitation from TAIPED for the selection of the contractor for the project “Restoration of Operational Depths of the Port of Volos after the Daniel and Elias storms”, was approved by the decision of the Minister of Shipping and Insular Policy, Christos Stylianidis. The object of the assigned project is the study and immediate restoration of the functional levels of the port basin of the port of Volos, with the removal of the sediments that have accumulated after the onset of the bad weather “Daniel” and “Elias” in September 2023.

Its budget reaches 9.6 million euros and is supported by the Sectoral Development Program of the Ministry of Shipping and the General Secretariat of Shipping and Ports, following funding from the resources of the Natural Disaster Recovery and State Aid program, in collaboration with the deputy minister of National Economy and Finance, Nikos Papathanasis and the Deputy Minister of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, Christos Triandopoulos.

It is, as the relevant announcement states, a project of vital importance for the local community of Volos that was tested by the extreme weather last winter. “The Ministry of Shipping and Insular Policy, the General Secretariat of Shipping & Ports, in collaboration with the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection, realizing the challenges that the climate crisis brings to the daily lives of citizens, ranks restoration projects in the affected areas at the forefront”, the announcement emphasizes.
